Composition Materials

The following materials represent the eleventh day of a course delivered to second semester first year writing students. This course was to be delivered as an asynchronous online course to Chinese students in China, as well as, to American students in a face to face in the classroom setting using the same materials and examples.

Please note the inclusion of misspelled words and typos in the materials are intentional. Their presence is a way to encourage proofreading and editorial skills in students, they also serve as a humanizing agent to help the students see that everyone struggles with language. As a standing extra credit opportunity my students can find the errors and report them to me via email. If a student reports errors in a given day with corrections they have earned 1 point of extra credit in a 1,000 point class. over the course of the semester a student can add 4% of the total grade if they do this every day.
